The Pirates of Penzance - Broadway version
28th - 31st March 2012
Back in 1983 this stunning version of Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Pirates of Penzance” took New York by storm. Starring Linda Ronstadt and Kevin Kline it became a wonderful example of how to breathe new life into a well loved classic. With a new orchestral arrangement and incorporating two additional songs (one from “Ruddigore” and the other from “HMS Pinafore”) it was later made into a successful film with Angela Lansbury replacing Estelle Parsons as Ruth but with the original Broadway cast all reprising their roles.
Imagine a mad cap version where Frederick walks the plank, Pirates persued by sharks, Mermaids sitting on the rocky shore, decapitated heads, hapless dancing Policemen, (who would be more at home in a Keystone Cop movie) and even a guest appearance from Queen Victoria herself !
